YouTube is likely to launch a streaming video service
Popular video sharing platform YouTube is likely to launch a video streaming service.
According to a report published in the Wall Street Journal, YouTube plans to launch an online store for streaming video services.
The company has resumed talks with entertainment companies to participate in the platform, which it calls internally the “Channel Store.”
The report cited people close to the talks.
The report added that the platform has been in the works for at least 18 months and could be available as early as this fall.
Alphabet did not immediately respond to Reuters’ request for comment.
More and more consumers are ditching cable or satellite TV and switching to subscription-based streaming services. Share can be acquired.
The New York Times reported that Walmart was in talks with media companies to add streaming entertainment to its membership service.
